Amidst rumors of divisions among the Black Stars players, the Deputy General Secretary of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has spoken out to dismiss the reports. According to multiple sources, there were ongoing issues between certain players within the team.
In particular, during Asamoah Gyan’s time with the Black Stars, it was frequently reported that there was a rift between him and Andre Ayew. However, in a recent interview, Mr Asante Kotoko denied the allegations, stating that the players have a good relationship whenever they are in camp.
Speaking to Asempa FM, Mr. Kotoko explained that there were no signs of divisions among the players when they were together in camp. While some players may be closer to others, this does not translate to divisions within the team.
He went on to address the specific rumors about Asamoah Gyan and Andre Ayew, saying that they were always cool and that he did not see any division between them.
“When the players are in camp, there is no sign of divisions among them. Some players want to always be moving along with other players because of their closeness but I can say there are no divisions among the players in camp.
“Sometimes the media report that there is a division between Asamoah Gyan and Andre Ayew but they are always cool in camp and for me, there is no division”.
The Black Stars will be regrouping for their final two games of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against Madagascar and the Central African Republic next month.
