The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has formally approved the change of name of Ashtown Ladies Football Club to Ashanti Ladies Football Club, allowing the club to operate under its new identity.

The decision follows a request from the club’s ownership, which submitted official documentation supporting the proposed rebranding. The request was made as the club moved towards a new direction under the Ashanti Ladies Football Club name.

The GFA said it had received the relevant documents confirming that the company’s name had been changed through the Registrar General’s Department. It also stated that the process had been completed in accordance with Ghanaian law.

In its approval letter, the association said:

“We acknowledge receipt of the letter from ASHTOWN LADIES FOOTBALL CLUB requesting approval for a change of your club’s name from ASHTOWN LADIES FOOTBALL CLUB (an incorporated company) to ASHANTI LADIES FOOTBALL CLUB.

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) also acknowledge receipt of the incorporated documents of the change of name to ASHANTI LADIES FOOTBALL CLUB from the Registrar General’s Department submitted to the GFA. The GFA notes that ASHTOWN LADIES FOOTBALL CLUB, an incorporated company under the Companies Act, 2019 (Act 992) has changed its name correctly under the law.

Consequently, the GFA hereby approves the change of name from ASHTOWN LADIES FOOTBALL CLUB to ASHANTI LADIES FOOTBALL CLUB subject to the conditions below:

Kindly take notice that all documents, rights and obligations including but not limited to debts or fines owed to the GFA and player registration licenses or fees in the name of ASHTOWN LADIES FOOTBALL CLUB shall remain valid and shall continue in force as if same are owed by or are in the name of ASHANTI CITY FOOTBALL CLUB.”

The approval means the club’s existing administrative and regulatory records will continue to have legal effect despite the change of name. Documentation previously issued to Ashtown Ladies Football Club will remain valid under the association’s conditions.

Those continuing obligations include any debts or fines owed to the GFA, as well as player registration licences and associated fees recorded under the former name. The club’s rights and responsibilities are therefore not cancelled or reset by the rebranding.

The GFA’s letter makes clear that the name change is an alteration of the club’s identity rather than the creation of a separate organisation. Existing documents, rights and obligations will remain in force in line with the association’s approval.

The formal decision was issued through GFA Communications after the ownership’s request and the supporting change-of-name documents had been reviewed. The club will now be recognised by the GFA as Ashanti Ladies Football Club, replacing Ashtown Ladies Football Club as its approved name.
