Frimpong Manso plays down Nations FC title talk, shifts focus to FA Cup

Head coach of Nations FC, Frimpong Manso, has ruled out discussions about a Ghana Premier League title challenge, insisting his immediate priority is stabilising his side’s league position and pushing for success in the MTN FA Cup.

Speaking to Akoma 87.9 FM, Manso admitted that the gap between Nations FC and the league’s front runners, combined with the quality of opposition and recent squad setbacks, makes a title push unrealistic at this stage of the season.

“At the moment, we are not talking about winning the league,” he said. “Our priority is to put the team in a very good position. When you look at where we are on the table, the gap between us and the front runners, and also consider the quality of those teams, it becomes clear that it will be very difficult.”

The Nations FC boss also pointed to the departure of key players as a major factor shaping his outlook on the league campaign.

“We have lost a number of important players, and for these reasons, this is not the time to talk about the league title,” Manso explained. “Maybe we can look at the FA Cup, but as far as the league is concerned, it will be very, very challenging.”

With Nations FC currently competing in the Round of 16 of the MTN FA Cup, Manso says that competition has now taken centre stage in his plans.

“I’m not thinking about the league title at the moment,” he added. “My attention is firmly on the FA Cup. We are in the Round of 16, and that is where my focus lies  trying to win and move forward in the competition.”

Nations FC will be hoping to use the FA Cup as a platform to build momentum while continuing their Ghana Premier League campaign, with Manso emphasising steady improvement and competitiveness as his key objectives for the remainder of the season.
