Former Vice President of the Ghana Football Association Fred Pappoe has blamed Black Stars recent struggles to poor player selection by the coaching staff.
His statement comes in the wake of the national team’s uninspiring performances under coach Chris Hughton.
Recent 1-0 defeat to Comoros away in Moroni in the 2026 World Cup qualifier has raised concerns about the ability of the team to excel at next year’s Africa Cup of Nations.
“It boils down to the manager in charge, from selecting the right players, choosing the right tactics, to putting in the right substitutions,” Pappoe told Happy FM.
“If he, the coach, is still the right man for the job, the Ghana Football Association must sit down and assess his performance and see if he is the man to lead the team to the AFCON.” he stated.
Ghana will now sets her sight on the AFCON tournament scheduled for 2024 as they hope for an improved showing after exiting from the group stages in the previous edition
The Black Stars are in group B with Egypt, Cape Verde and Mozambique.
