Former Ghana star Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu has signed a one-year contract with Accra Great Olympics.
Agyemang-Badu will be available for the upcoming season, providing a boost to the capital club’s ambitions.
The move brings the midfielder’s inactivity to an end. The 31-year-old last played competitive football with Chinese club Qingdao FC in December 2021.
He left Qingdao in January 2022, and it took him more than six months to find another club.
Agyemang-Badu has a wealth of experience, having played at the highest levels of the game.
He played in the Italian Serie A for Udinese for eight years. Agyemang-Badu has also played for Hellas Verona and Turkey’s Bursaspor, Asante Kotoko and Berekum Chelsea.
Agyemang-Badu announced his retirement from international football in 2020. He won 78 caps for Ghana after making his senior debut in 2008.
He became a mainstay in the Black Stars, after excelling at the 2009 FIFA U20 World Cup in Egypt. Agyemang-Badu scored the winning penalty as Ghana beat Brazil to become the first African country to win the youth competition.
He was a squad member at two World Cups and five Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournaments, earning two silver medals.
