Former Communications Minister Omane Boamah not in support of Asamoah Gyan’s Black Stars return –

Former Communications Minister Dr Edward Omane Boamah is not in support of Asamoah Gyan’s Black Stars return, insisting he will jeopardise Andre Ayew’s captaincy.

Gyan revealed his intention to play for the Black Stars at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

Gyan has been sidelined from the Black Stars with his last appearance coming three years ago. The Sunderland man was a substitute in a 2019 Africa Cup of Nations round of 16 clash against Tunisia.

He has since not been invited with his club career in recent years making it very difficult to consider him for selection.

Gyan last played a competitive game in May 2021, representing Legon Cities against WAFA in a Ghana Premier League. Months later, he terminated his contract with the Accra-based club and is still looking for a new one.

“Asamoah Gyan has served our nation very well. He has received National honours and we thank him for his dedicated service,” he wrote on Facebook.

“Let us not dishonour him by featuring him as a footballer in the 2022 FIFA World Cup. The modern game has intricate dynamics with extraordinary energy and match fitness demands.”

“Besides, his presence changes the entire dynamics in the Dede Ayew-led Ghana Black Stars. Additionally, how many more players in the Asamoah Gyan category will be favourably considered or disappointed? I speak as a former Coordinator of the Ghana Black Stars with insider knowledge.

“Gyan has done very well for Ghana. No doubt,” he concluded.

Gyan is Ghana’s all-time leading scorer with 51 goals, including six in the World Cup, making him the continent’s leading scorer in the competition.
