FIFA Talent Coach, Stuart Yaw McLaren, has commended the Ghana Football Association (GFA) for organizing the Elite Youth Regional Championship, describing it as a crucial platform for developing the next generation of female footballers.
Speaking to ghanafa.org, McLaren praised the quality of play and the enthusiasm displayed by the young participants, noting that such competitions are vital for talent discovery and long-term growth.
“I’m hugely impressed. I think the talent that’s on show has been absolutely fantastic. Equally as important for me, I’ve seen so many young girls playing with a smile on their face, playing with a real competitive spirit, supporting their teammates,” McLaren said.
He added that the atmosphere and passion seen throughout the tournament reflected the players’ joy and commitment to the game.
“You can see from the celebrations at the end, not just from the winning team, but from all of them, the girls have had a wonderful experience,” he noted.
McLaren also highlighted the technical strengths observed in different positions, from goalkeepers to attackers.
The coach emphasized that while Ghana’s talent base is promising, continuous improvement and proper guidance remain essential.
He urged stakeholders to sustain efforts in creating competitive and supportive environments for young female players.
The Elite Youth Regional Championship, introduced by the GFA last year, aims to identify, nurture, and prepare young players for future national team duties.
