Nantes to win basement against Auxerre in Ligue One

On New Year’s Day, Nantes and Auxerre will be looking to get the new year off in winning style as the two struggling Ligue One teams meet at the Stade de la Beaujoire.

The home side is currently in 16th place in the French top-flight table, just a point above the relegation zone. Antoine Kombouare’s team head into this potentially crucial clash on the back of a five-game winless run in Ligue One.

However, those games have not all been fruitless, as four of the five matches have produced draws.

Their recent league games have also been low-scoring affairs, with under 2.5 goals scored in four of their previous five French top-flight matches.

Nantes have been tough to beat of late, as they have suffered just one home defeat in their previous 11 league matches on home soil. However, they have also won just once in their last five league games at the Stade de la Beaujoire.

The visitors are in even worse shape than their hosts, as they are currently in 18th place in the table. However, a victory would move them above Nantes in the table and out of the relegation zone.

Auxerre wins have been rare of late, though, as the visitors have won just one of their previous 12 games in the French top flight.

Christophe Pelissier’s team has also lost three of their last five games in Ligue One, having conceded at least two goals in all three defeats.

Auxerre’s recent away form has not exactly been encouraging, as they are winless on their travels in Ligue One in six games, having suffered five defeats in the run.

What does Forebet predict?

Forebet predicts that Nantes will record a victory in a high-scoring encounter to move further away from the relegation zone.
