Essien to resume training on Sunday

Ghana star Michael Essien is set to resume training at Real Madrid after spending three weeks on the sidelines due to an allergic reaction.

Essien, who turns 30 on Monday, travelled to Chelsea for treatment and watched from the stands as his Real Madrid side silenced Atletico Madrid 2-0 at the Estadio Santiago Bernabéu.

The Chelsea loanee has not featured for Real Madrid since playing full throttle in the 2-1 win over Levante in early November.

Madrid boss Jose Mourinho is hoping his versatile midfielder will gain match fitness to their final Uefa Champions League group game against Ajax on Tuesday.
