English-Ghanaian Kobbie Mainoo expresses disappointment in Manchester United’s stalemate against Liverpool

English-born Ghanaian midfielder Kobbie Mainoo has expressed his disappointment following Manchester United’s stalemate against Liverpool in the English Premier League.

Mainoo, who recently debuted for the Three Lions of England was called to action when the Red Devils hosted Liverpool at the Old Trafford.

The 18-year-old made a good account of himself by registering his name on the scoresheet in the crucial game.

‘It left us disappointed. We worked hard to get into the game after a tough first half,’ he told the BBC. ‘We have given it away, ultimately we wanted the three points and it’s a big game for us coming to the end of the season.

‘To not come away with three points is tough to take.’

It was Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s rash challenge on substitute Harvey Elliott that gave Salah, who had had a quiet game by his standards, the chance to level it up from the spot.

‘Again penalties have cost us,’ Mainoo said, ‘but we have to keep on working ironing out these details that keep costing us and keep trying to get better.’

Liverpool, who are challenging for the Premier league title opened the scoring after 23 minutes into the game through Colombian international Luis Diaz. The visitors went to the halftime break with the advantage.

After the break, Portugal international Bruno Fernandes scored to restore parity five minutes into the second half of the much-anticipated clash.

Putting on a stellar performance, Kobbie Mainoo fired Manchester United in front in spectacular fashion against Liverpool, picking out the top corner from the edge of the area in the second half.

The Red Devils were cursing to victory until Egyptian international Mohammed Salah stepped up to score to level the pegging for the visitors in the game.

The former Chelsea star grabbed the equalizer in the 88th minute mark to earned a point for Liverpool. It is his third goal of the season for the youngster.

Mainoo has established himself as a key member of Manchester United squad since his debut in November 2023.

The 18-year-old midfielder has scored two goals and provided two assists in 25 appearances across competitions.

Mainoo has already featured for the England national team, derailing chances of representing the Black Stars of Ghana.

He earned his debut against Brazil, where England succumbed to a 1-0 defeat before winning his first start against Belgium during the March international break.
