Bankroller of Elmina Sharks, Dr. Paa Kwesi Nduom, has held the Ghana Football Association (GFA) responsible for the recent surge in hooliganism across the country’s football competitions.
February has witnessed multiple incidents of violence in both the Ghana Premier League and Division One League, with one tragic incident in Nsoatre leading to the death of a fan.
On the same day a one-week memorial was held for the late Nana Pooley, another violent episode occurred during a match between Elmina Sharks and Swedru All Blacks. Despite All Blacks securing a 1-0 victory, the game was marred by chaos after the final whistle.
Elmina Sharks players and officials confronted referee Eso Doh Morrison over a penalty decision that ultimately decided the match, leading to attacks on the referee and other officials.
Speaking on GTV Sports+, Dr. Nduom distanced himself from the actions of his team and instead pointed fingers at the GFA, insisting they must take full responsibility for the growing indiscipline in Ghanaian football.
“Some people take certain portions of a video and say the fans in Elmina are hooligans when they don’t understand what happened. Don’t take a clip and say, Shouldn’t someone take responsibility?,” he quizzed.
“It is the GFA. They take responsibility. They must make everybody safe. They must make the games entertaining; they must pay the referees appropriately and pay everybody well, not just take FIFA money and go and rest somewhere.”
