Respected media practitioner Dr. Godfred Akoto Boafo has called for a more inclusive approach to national team selections, urging the Ghana Football Association to consider standout performers from the Division One League for Black Stars call-ups.

Speaking on Max FM, Dr. Boafo addressed the quality of Ghana’s second-tier football and emphasized that the level of talent in Division One is often overlooked.

He cited the recent exploits of Golden Kick FC in the FA Cup as evidence that the gap between Division One and the Ghana Premier League may not be as wide as commonly believed.

“Take a look at what Golden Kick have been able to do in the FA Cup. It supports the theory that the gap between Division One and Premier League isn’t that wide,” he said.

Dr. Boafo emphasized that national team selection should be based on performance and talent rather than league status.

“If there is a Division One player better than someone in the Premier League, then call him. It seems Division One players aren’t respected enough,” he asserted.

He went on to cite specific examples, including Kwadwo Boamah of Hohoe United, as players who are worthy of national recognition.

“Division One has quality players such as Kwadwo Boamah and others who deserve a chance,” he added.

His comments echo growing sentiments that the Black Stars’ talent pool can be broadened by scouting beyond the top flight, especially with the increasing competitiveness and visibility of Division One football.
