Despite Media Group has built one of Ghana’s most influential media empires, spanning flagship news website Peacefmonline.com, multiple radio stations and a free-to-air national television channel that together shape political debate, entertainment and public information across the country and beyond.

Digital news hub for Black African audiences

Peacefmonline.com describes itself as Ghana’s leading digital platform for news and information, serving as a “one-stop shop” for audiences in Ghana and people of Black African descent worldwide.

The site, operated by Despite Media Group, provides continuous coverage of politics, business, entertainment and wider social issues affecting the African continent. It positions itself as a comprehensive, up-to-the-minute online news source, using a range of multimedia tools to reach audiences at home and in the diaspora.

The platform incorporates live audio streaming, on-demand audio packages and RSS syndication, allowing users to follow programmes in real time or revisit previously aired shows from its audio archives.

Peace FM: Political talk radio powerhouse

At the core of the group’s influence in traditional media is Peace FM, an Akan-language radio station based in Accra.

Targeting middle- to upper-income listeners, Peace FM is known for hosting some of Ghana’s most prominent political talk programmes, with discussions that resonate beyond the country’s borders. The station promotes itself as a primary destination for “factual, relevant and up-to-the-minute” news, in-depth interviews and general information.

Its talk shows are widely regarded as agenda-setting within Ghana’s political and public affairs landscape, drawing contributions from politicians, analysts and the general public.

Okay FM: Youthful mix of music and infotainment

Also under the Despite Media umbrella is Okay FM, another Accra-based station with a strong focus on entertainment.

Okay FM has carved out a niche with its blend of contemporary Ghanaian music and selected international tracks, aimed at sparking what it calls “youthful exuberance”. Alongside its musical output, the station is recognised for interviews that carry both entertainment and news value, positioning it as a hybrid outlet for pop culture and current affairs.

Hello FM: Kumasi’s leading local broadcaster

In the Ashanti regional capital, Kumasi – often referred to as the Garden City – Hello FM serves as one of the most prominent local stations.

The broadcaster combines regular news bulletins with talk programmes and a strong music and entertainment line-up. Within the metropolitan area and its environs, Hello FM is widely viewed as a central source of information and discussion, particularly for local issues and community-focused content.

Neat FM: Politics, news and religious content

Neat FM, another Accra-based station in the group, concentrates on news, politics and entertainment, but also highlights what it calls “peculiar but true” religious news stories.

This mix of political coverage and faith-related content is designed to appeal to audiences for whom religion plays a central role in daily life, reflecting Ghana’s highly religious society.

UTV Ghana: Free-to-air television reach

Beyond radio and online platforms, the Despite Group of Companies also operates United Television Ghana Limited (UTV Ghana), a private, free-to-air television broadcaster launched in 2013.

Headed by businessman Dr Osei Kwame Despite, the channel produces and airs a wide range of programming, including:

– National and international news bulletins
– Drama series and telenovelas
– Films and other entertainment formats

UTV Ghana has become a key part of the country’s free-to-air broadcasting landscape, offering a blend of locally produced content and acquired shows aimed at mass audiences.
