Defender Patric Pfeiffer completes nationality switch to Ghana

Augsburg defender Patric Pfeiffer has confirmed his nationality switch from Germany to Ghana.

In 2022, the Ghana Football Association announced that Pfeiffer was among five players who had switched nationality or agreed to play for Ghana.

However, the switch hit a snag which ruled him out of international assignments but issue has now been resolved.

Patric was born in Hamburg but of Ghanaian descent.

“A few weeks ago I was in Ghana and now I have my passport,” the Germany youth international told South African journalists during Augsburg’s pre-season camp in Mpumalanga.

“I hope in September I can get a call-up. I know the coach, Otto Addo because he was the coach of Hamburg in the youth team [where I played].

“I have good contacts with him. I wanted to join the Black Stars before but I didn’t have my passport, but now it’s done and I’m ready.”

“Yes of course, because this is my motherland, I love Ghana, I love the people, I love the vibe, I love the food,” he added.
