Ghanaian referee Daniel Nii Ayi Laryea has been named among the elite list of match officials selected for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco, cementing his status as one of the continent’s most trusted referees.
Laryea is part of a 28-man refereeing team unveiled by CAF, featuring some of Africa’s top officials from Algeria, Egypt, Senegal, South Africa, Morocco and more. His inclusion continues Ghana’s long tradition of producing respected referees for major continental tournaments.
The appointment also highlights Laryea’s impressive rise over the past few years. He has overseen high-profile CAF Champions League, Confederation Cup and World Cup qualifying matches, and is widely regarded as Ghana’s leading referee on the international stage.
For Ghana, his selection is another milestone at a time when the national refereeing department is working to rebuild credibility and improve standards domestically. Laryea’s presence at AFCON 2025 not only boosts the country’s reputation but also provides valuable inspiration for young referees coming through the ranks.
AFCON 2025 kicks off in Morocco in less than a month, with CAF expected to finalise VAR officials and additional matchday appointments in the coming weeks.
