The Confederation of African Football (CAF) is expected to announce a decision on the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) within the next 48 hours, according to Luxolo September, CAF’s Head of Communications.
The tournament, scheduled to take place in Morocco from March 17 to April 3, has been surrounded by uncertainty, with reports suggesting possible postponement or relocation.
September stated that discussions have been ongoing for weeks and the matter is receiving urgent and high-level attention.
South Africa has offered to step in as hosts if Morocco is unable to stage the event, citing readiness and infrastructure.
The 2026 WAFCON serves as a qualifier for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil, with the four semi-finalists securing automatic qualification spots.
Teams are preparing for the tournament, and a decision from CAF is eagerly awaited.
