Ghanaian striker Brandon Thomas-Asante was the star of the show on Saturday as he scored twice in the first half to inspire Coventry City’s 5-0 demolition of Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough.
The 26-year-old struck in the third and 31st minutes, setting the tone for a ruthless display that lifted the Sky Blues to the top of the Championship table and stretched their unbeaten start to nine games.
Thomas-Asante’s sharp instincts saw him react quickest to a loose ball inside the box for the opener, before his relentless pressing forced Dominic Iorfa into an error which he punished with a clinical finish. He nearly completed a hat-trick after the restart, his powerful header drawing a superb save from goalkeeper Ethan Horvath.
The Ghanaian now has five goals and three assists in nine league appearances, quickly establishing himself as Coventry’s talisman in their push for promotion.
Haji Wright, Ellis Simms, and Tatsuhiro Sakamoto were also on target as Mark Robins’ men cruised to victory, but it was Thomas-Asante’s all-round display that underlined his growing reputation as one of the Championship’s most complete forwards
