Tuesday night brings us the opening games of the group stage of this season’s Champions League and it features this upcoming Matchday 1 clash between German hosts, Borussia Dortmund, and their Danish visitors, FC Copenhagen, in this important Group G clash at Signal-Iduna-Park.

With the likes of Manchester City and Sevilla also in the group, it will be vitally important to both Borussia Dortmund and FC Copenhagen to get themselves off to a good start in this group campaign.

On the domestic front, Borussia Dortmund have struck a rich vein of form so far in the Bundesliga.

The hosts have won four out of their opening five league games, their one loss being a surprise 3-2 defeat at home to Werder Bremen.

But having collected wins against Bayer Leverkusen, Freiburg, Hertha Berlin and Hoffenheim, Dortmund will fancy their chances in this upcoming fixture.

Form on home soil in the Champions League has also been steady as Dortmund have lost just two of their last 12 home ties in the competition whilst also picking up seven wins in the process.

Dortmund have a number of missing personnel through injury with the likes of forwards, Bynoe-Gittens, Adeyemi and Malen expected to be absent, along with midfielder Dahoud and defenders, Morey and Guerreiro, also missing.

FC Copenhagen have produced a somewhat mixed bag of results to date in this season’s Danish Superliga campaign as the visitors have won four but also lost four of their opening eight games of the season.

Although Copenhagen have picked up victories over Aalborg, Brondby, Lyngby and Silkeborg, the visitors have also slipped to defeats against Horsens, Viborg, Randers and Nordsjaelland.

Their inconsistent start to this new term must be a cause for concern for their manager, Jess Thorup, as he prepares his side for Matchday 1 of the Champions League this week.

FC Copenhagen came through a play-off qualifier against Turkish side, Trabzonspor, to reach the group stage of this season’s competition but having won just four of their last 18 away ties at this level, the Danes look to be severely ‘under-cooked’ ahead of this upcoming trip to Signal-Iduna-Park.

With home advantage behind them, and despite the list of absentees, Borussia Dortmund should still possess the quality to secure an opening win of their campaign here on Tuesday night.
