Der Klassiker takes centre stage in the German Bundesliga this weekend, as arch-rivals Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich lock horns at Signal Iduna Park.

The two enemies find themselves locked on 15 points, with third-place Bayern leading fourth-place Dortmund on goal difference.

As we head into Matchday 9, Union Berlin and SC Freiburg are the surprise frontrunners. Can Dortmund or Bayern close the gap this weekend?

It is worth noting that Dortmund have yet to register a draw in the Bundesliga this season, recording five wins and three draws so far.

BVB won four of their opening five games, seeing off Bayer Leverkusen, Freiburg, Hertha and Hoffenheim. Since then, however, they have suffered two defeats in three outings.

Impressively, Dortmund have kept a clean sheet in each of their previous three home games across all competitions – highlighting their defensive solidity.

Dortmund head into Saturday’s clash on the back of a high-scoring victory, having thrashed Sevilla 4-1 in the Champions League on Wednesday.

On the flip side, Bayern Munich have only lost one of their eight Bundesliga matches this term – picking up four wins and three draws along the way.

You probably won’t be surprised to learn that Bayern are the league’s highest scorers, having netting 23 goals in eight outings (2.9 goals per game).

The defending champions ended a four-game winless run in the Bundesliga last weekend, dispatching Leverkusen 4-0.

Better still, they hammered Viktoria Plzen 5-0 in the Champions League on Tuesday – with Leroy Sane bagging a brace.

Head-to-head: Bayern have won each of their past seven Bundesliga clashes with Dortmund, scoring over 2.5 goals on six occasions during that period.

It is also worth noting that ten of the previous 11 league meetings between Dortmund and Bayern have produced over 3.5 goals.

Team news: Dortmund have numerous injury absentees at the moment, including Mahmoud Dahoud, Sebastien Haller, Marco Rues and Gio Reyna.

As for Bayern, they look set to be without the injured trio of Bouna Sarr, Kingsley Coman and Lucas Hernandez this weekend.

Regardless of Bayern’s recent upturn in form, Saturday’s showdown looks set to be a close-fought battle between two top sides.

With that in mind, Forbet predicts that Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich will play out a low-scoring draw.
