Ghana’s U17 side, the Black Starlets, continue to sharpen their preparations in Yamoussoukro, Ivory Coast, ahead of the 2024 WAFU Zone B U17 Championship.
The team arrived earlier this week and has already completed two training sessions as they gear up for their opening game against Togo on Saturday.
Head coach Dr. Prosper Narteh Ogum is encouraged by the steady progress of his players.
After Thursday’s workout, he noted that the group is beginning to adjust well to their surroundings.
“The players are getting used to the pitch and environment and are getting better with their trainings. We have just been working on how we win the ball and how we attack the spaces to get goals,” he said.
The second training session placed strong emphasis on pressing, quick ball recovery, and transitions into attack. According to the technical team, these tactical details will be crucial once the tournament kicks off.
This year’s WAFU Zone B U17 competition, scheduled to start on September 20, also serves as the qualifying route for the 2025 U17 Africa Cup of Nations. Ghana has been placed in Group A alongside hosts Ivory Coast, Niger, and Togo.
The Black Starlets will begin their campaign against Togo at the Charles Konan Banny Stadium on Saturday.
They will then take on Ivory Coast on Tuesday before wrapping up the group stage with a clash against Niger on Friday.
