Black Maidens beat Nigeria to win 2024 WAFU B U-17 Cup

Black Maidens of Ghana have been crowned champions of the 2024 WAFU B U-17 Cup after a thrilling encounter against Nigeria in the finals on Sunday at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram.

The match ended 2-2 after regular time, with Ghana eventually emerging victorious, winning 5-4 on penalties.

The Black Maidens took an early lead, with Getrude Amoafo scoring in the 14th minute.

Priscilla Mensah doubled the lead for Ghana just five minutes later, giving the host team a 2-0 advantage.

Nigeria, however, refused to give up and pulled one goal back before the end of the first half.

The Nigerians continued to mount pressure on Ghana in the second half, and their efforts finally paid off in the 78th minute when they scored the equalizer, sending the game to penalty shootouts.

In the penalty shootout, Ghana’s players held their nerve, scoring five out of their five penalties to win the championship title.
