The Black Galaxies of Ghana and Nigeria’s Super Eagles B played out a 0-0 draw in the first leg of the 2024 CHAN qualifiers at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday.
Ghana started strong, creating numerous scoring opportunities but failing to capitalize on them.
Nigeria eventually settled into the game, using their physicality to neutralize Ghana’s attacks while creating some chances of their own.
One of the standout moments came in the first half when Adamu Abubakar initiated a counterattack, but Ebenezer Abban’s handball stopped the play, resulting in a free kick from a promising position.
Captain Junior Nduka’s effort, however, went wide, leaving the first half goalless.
In the second half, Ghana’s Mustapha Yakubu forced a save from goalkeeper Henry Ozoemena while Nigeria’s Papa Daniel Mustafa struck the woodwork in the 58th minute.
Ghana’s substitutions, orchestrated by coach Didi Dramani, nearly paid off with two close chances from wing play, but Nigeria’s defense remained resolute.
The return leg is scheduled for Saturday, December 28, in Uyo, with the winner earning a spot in the 2024 African Nations Championship to be hosted by Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda.
