Black Queens Head Coach Kim Lars Björkegren has cautioned his team against underestimating Egypt, describing the North African nation as one of the fastest-improving sides in women’s football.
Speaking ahead of the first leg of Ghana’s 2026 WAFCON qualifier, the Swedish coach acknowledged Egypt’s recent investments in their women’s program and the emergence of several standout players who could pose a threat.
“Egypt is one of the most upcoming teams in Africa, actually, so they have also been good now for a while. I know that they have started to invest in women’s football. Also, they have three, four really good players that can make the difference.”
However, Björkegren believes the outcome will ultimately depend on Ghana’s own performance and discipline on the pitch.
“Of course, we need to handle them, but again, it’s going to be back to us that we have to perform and make sure that we are the better team.”
The Black Queens will take on Egypt in Ismailia on Thursday October 23 before hosting the return leg in Accra as they aim to secure qualification for the continental showpiece in 2026.
