Ghana and Hearts of Oak goalkeeper Benjamin Asare says he is determined to raise his standards in the 2026/2027 season after a strong campaign for club and country.
The 34-year-old was one of Hearts of Oak’s outstanding performers during the 2025/2026 Ghana Premier League season and has since attracted interest from several clubs following his displays at the 2026 World Cup.
Asare was speaking at the Ghana Gas House on Saturday morning, where he took part in a health walk organised by Ghana Gas under the theme: ‘strengthening staff welfare and promoting community engagement.’
The goalkeeper led from the front during the demanding event, showing considerable energy and resilience as hundreds of young people lined the streets of Accra to cheer participants.
Together with Ghana Gas chief executive Judith Adjoba Blay, Asare led company staff through Dzowurlu, Airport and the surrounding areas.
After completing the walk, he encouraged the wider Ghanaian community to take part in initiatives focused on health and fitness.
“I would like to thank Ghana Gas. It is good that once a while you can get this kind of exercise. It is very good for those who need strength or energy. Every year, when they do this, it helps those who work in the company.”
World Cup performances attract interest
Asare enhanced his reputation at the 2026 World Cup, where he impressed after coming on in the second half of Ghana’s opening match against Panama.
He then kept a clean sheet against England in the Black Stars’ second group game. Although he conceded twice against Croatia and was not involved in Ghana’s last-32 defeat by Colombia, the tournament fulfilled his lifelong ambition of playing on football’s biggest stage.
His World Cup performances have now made him a target for a number of clubs, although no move has been confirmed.
Asare said the coming campaign represented an opportunity to demonstrate that his success was not a one-off, while also acknowledging the support he receives from Ghanaian fans.
“This is the time to prove to Ghanaians that I can do it. Once it is my job, I must prove at anywhere because of the love and the way they cheer me. As at now, expect more from me [next season].”
Blay said Asare’s performances and professional approach had made a strong impression on her and the leadership of Ghana Gas.
” We love him. We thought that he was the star. Benjamin Asare is confident and Ghana gas stands for such confidence. We stand for people who perform and we all know Asare performed extremely well during the World Cup; that’s why we picked him,” she said
The health walk formed part of Ghana Gas’ wider efforts to improve the lifestyles of employees whose work may involve long periods of inactivity.
Blay said the company organises the programme twice each year as part of its commitment to staff health and general welfare.
“This is one of many programs we embark on throughout the year to ensure that employees are doing well health wise and overall well-being. We do this programme twice a year. As leaders of Ghana Gas we want to ensure enployee well-being and health,” Judith Adjoba Blay, CEO of Ghana Gas, added.
The day ended with a series of sporting activities involving teams from different departments within the organisation.
