Hearts of Oak goalkeeper Benjamin Asare says he intends to raise his performance level during the 2026/27 Ghana Premier League season as he looks to repay the confidence shown in him by the club’s supporters.
The 34-year-old goalkeeper enjoyed a significant breakthrough with the Black Stars at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, starting in all three of Ghana’s group-stage matches against Panama, England and Croatia.
Asare’s composed performances helped Ghana produce a series of impressive defensive displays at the tournament and enhanced his standing as one of the country’s leading goalkeepers.
Speaking to the media, Asare thanked Ghanaians for the backing he received and made clear that he expects to improve further during the new campaign.
“Expect more from me next season,” Asare said in a message to Hearts of Oak fans.
The former Great Olympics goalkeeper is set to remain an important part of the Hearts of Oak team as the club prepares to open its league campaign against Berekum Chelsea.
Asare joined Hearts of Oak before the 2025/26 season and soon established himself as the club’s first-choice goalkeeper. A run of assured performances saw him become a dependable presence in goal, with his reflexes, leadership, command of aerial situations and composure standing out.
Those displays earned him his first call-up to the Black Stars. He then took his opportunity on football’s biggest stage, playing in every group match at the 2026 FIFA World Cup and strengthening his reputation at international level.
His emergence has also given him a clear personal target for the months ahead. The 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers are due to begin in September, and Asare will be seeking to maintain his current form in order to keep his place in Ghana’s national team.
At club level, he will also be expected to play a central role as Hearts of Oak pursue major honours in the coming season.
The Accra-based side will begin that challenge against Berekum Chelsea, with Asare’s experience and authority likely to be central to their preparations. Having already demonstrated his ability to handle pressure for both club and country, the goalkeeper is now determined to produce even more for Hearts of Oak in 2026/27.
