Ghana and CD Lugo forward Jerry Afriyie has expressed his eagerness to join the Black Stars for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers in March.
Afriyie made his national team debut in Ghana’s 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Niger in November, scoring a goal in an impressive cameo performance.
Currently on loan from Al Qadisiyah, Afriyie has scored twice for CD Lugo in the ongoing season.
Ghana will face Chad and Madagascar this month in the qualifications campaign.
When asked about the prospect of playing for the Black Stars in the World Cup qualifiers, Afriyie confidently stated, “I will be very happy and glad if they called me because there is more [goals] on the way coming,” he told 3sports
Afriyie’s rise to prominence began when he became the first player to be called up to the national team from Ghana’s second division.
He played a key role in Ghana’s 2023 African Games gold medal win and was instrumental in qualifying for the U-20 AFCON, where he was named Player of the Tournament and Top scorer.
