Athletic Club to strengthen their European bid at Granada

On Tuesday night, Granada hosts Athletic Club at the Estadio Nuevo Los Carmenes, in a game that could be vital in the fight for la Liga survival and the race to secure European football for next season.

Granada

The home team is fighting for their lives at the wrong end of La Liga and are just two points clear of the relegation zone with just three matches of the season remaining.

A 6-2 win at relegation rivals Mallorca last time out ended a four-game winless run in the Spanish top-flight for Aitor Karanka’s team. However, the win also means that the Andalusians are unbeaten in three matches in La Liga.

Granada has been in poor form on home soil in La Liga, as they have failed to win in their last eight home matches in the Spanish top-flight, picking up just four draws and suffering four defeats in the process.

Athletic Club

The Lions are still in the race for the top-six and European football next season. Marcelino’s team is currently four points behind sixth-place Real Sociedad in the table.

A recent three-game unbeaten run in La Liga has boosted the visitor’s chances of landing European football last season. However, a 0-0 home draw with Valencia ended a short two-game winning run for the boys from Bilbao.

The visitor’s recent league matches have been relatively low-scoring, as there have been under 2.5 goals scored in six of their last eight matches in the Spanish top-flight.

Although Athletic have picked up four points from their last two away games, they have also won just one of their last five league matches in the English top-flight.

What does Forebet predict?

Forebet predicts that Athletic will record a victory in a high-scoring encounter to boost their hopes of a top-six finish this season and dent Granada’s survival chances in the process.
