Former Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan has expressed strong support for John Paintsil’s recent appointment as the Black Stars’ assistant coach.
The Ghana FA announced a new coaching team that included Otto Addo’s return as head coach, Joseph Laumann, John Paintsil, and Fatau Dauda as his assistants.
This announcement was met with mixed reactions from the Ghanaian public.
While some applauded the decision, others were skeptical about Paintsil’s readiness for the job.
Addressing the concerns during an interview on Asempa FM, Gyan firmly stood by Paintsil’s appointment, emphasizing that his former teammate’s new role was well-deserved.
‘‘John (Paintsil) sacrificed a lot for the national team but people seem to forget. After retirement, he went to coach in South Africa as an assistant and gathered relevant experience.’’
‘‘If you look at his life after retirement, all he he’s done is coach. So if I look at his records and what he has done, I can only support his appointment to the assistant’s role,’’ Gyan added.
