AS Monaco vs FC Lorient – 16/04/2023

Lorient to dent Monaco’s Champions League chances

1210

On Sunday afternoon, Monaco hosts Lorient at the Stade Louis ll as the home team chases a top-three finish in Ligue One and a place in next season’s Champions League.

The team from the principality is unbeaten in three Ligue One matches after back-to-back wins over Ajaccio and Strasbourg and a 2-2 draw against Nantes last time out in the French top-flight.

The problem for Philippe Clement’s team is that his team has only won two of their previous six games in Ligue One, which has dented their Champions League hopes.

The home team is now fourth-place in the table and three points adrift of third-place Marseille in the fight for a place in the Champions League qualifying rounds.

One consistently positive facet of Monaco’s game of late has been their attacking threat, as they have scored at least two goals in four of their last five matches in Ligue One.

The visitors are in the limbo of midtable, as they currently sit in tenth place in the Ligue One table, seven points adrift of the European spots.

A run of just one win in their last six league outings has proven all but fatal to their chances of playing continental football next season. However, last time out in the league, Lorient managed a highly creditable 0-0 draw with third-place Marseille.

The Marseille encounter was another low-scoring game for Regis Le Bris’ team, as five of Lorient’s last six matches in Ligue One have produced under 2.5 goals.

Lorient’s away form has been poor lately, as they head into this clash on the back of a six-game winless run on their travels in Ligue One, including suffering four defeats.
