Ghana international Antoine Semenyo has smashed records at AFC Bournemouth, completing a £65 million transfer to Premier League giants Manchester City.

The move, triggered by City activating his release clause, sees Semenyo sign a five-and-a-half-year deal at the Etihad Stadium, keeping him at the club until 2031. The 25-year-old attacker becomes Bournemouth’s most expensive sale ever and the most expensive Ghanaian footballer in history.

Semenyo put pen to paper on Friday after completing his medical on Thursday, a day after featuring for the Cherries against Tottenham Hotspur in what proved to be his final appearance for the club.

Bournemouth paid tribute to the forward, saying: “We can confirm that Antoine Semenyo has joined Manchester City for a club-record fee. Everyone at AFC Bournemouth wishes you nothing but the best, Ant.”

Semenyo’s rise has been meteoric. Born in London to Ghanaian parents, he began his career at Bristol City before loan spells at Bath City, Newport County, and Sunderland helped him develop. Bournemouth signed him midway through the 2022/23 season, and he quickly established himself as one of their most consistent performers.

This season, Semenyo scored 10 goals and provided three assists in the Premier League, bringing his overall tally for the Cherries to 32 goals and 13 assists in 110 appearances across all competitions.

The transfer marks a major milestone for Semenyo and underscores the growing impact of Ghanaian players at the highest level of European football.
