Andre Ayew opens up on “very difficult moments” at World Cup, confirms his daughter collapsed

Captain Andre Ayew described Ghana’s elimination from the Qatar 2022 Fifa World Cup as ‘unfortunate’ as well as confirmed that his daughter collapsed after Friday’s loss to Uruguay.

The Black Stars were defeated by La Celeste 2-0, but their goals were preceded by a penalty miss by the 32-year-old in the 21st minute.

Ghana exited the tournament with three points in Group H

The following day, Andre published a statement on his Instagram account, explaining some personal misfortunes he had been enduring, including the death of his “godson” in the days leading up to the opening match against Portugal and the rumoured collapse of his daughter yesterday.

“Our final group match result was not what we were looking forward to in the tournament, but unfortunately, it ended up this way,” he wrote.

“Personally, it has been very difficult moments for me in the past few days. I lost my godson the morning before the Portugal game, and my daughter was also rushed to the hospital after the Uruguay [game]. Thanks to Almighty Allah, she’s getting better.”

Andre, meanwhile, is of the strong belief that both himself and the Black Stars will rise again.

“These difficult moments will inspire me to come back stronger and better in the future, and so I believe, will the Black Stars.

“In our true Ghanaian spirits, WE WILL NEVER SAY DIE, UNTIL THE BONES ARE ROTTEN, WO KUM APEM A, APEM BEBA.

“Thank you all for your prayers and unwavering support.

“REST IN PEACE, ADAM.”

Andre Ayew has 113 international caps to date, making him Ghana’s most-capped player.
