Ghanaian defender Alexander Djiku’s transfer to German side Hoffenheim has been cancelled due to a last-minute increase in agent’s commission demands.
The Bundesliga club had agreed a €6 million transfer fee with Strasbourg, and the player passed his medical on Wednesday.
Just as the transfer was about to be completed, his brother who doubles as his agent intervened and asked for increment of fees, causing the Hoffenheim to back out of the deal.
The Ghanaian defender will now have to find another club after Strasbourg club president Marc Keller agreed to sell the Ghanaian defender this transfer window.
Djiku, who formerly played for French club FC Caen, currently has one year left on his contract with Strasbourg.
The 27-year-old defender had an impressive season in the Ligue 1, having made 31 appearances as the club finished 6th on the league table.
Djiku has attracted interest from clubs across Europe this summer including Sevilla and Rennes.
His overhead kick goal against AS Monaco won the best goal in the month of March and was awarded Strasbourg’s best goal of the 2021-22 season.
Djiku was adjudged the Ghana Footballer of the year at Ghana Football Awards night.
