General Manager of Aduana FC, Takyi Arhin, has backed the proposal to extend the GFA presidential term limit from two to three terms ; describing it as timely and strategic for Ghana football.
The GFA’s Ordinary Congress on August 12 will vote on whether to increase the president’s maximum term from 8 to 12 years, following approval from FIFA. If passed, this would allow Kurt Okraku ; who assumed office in 2019 , to seek a third term.
“I am in full support of extending the GFA President’s term limit to three,” Arhin said. “Anyone is free to contest Kurt Okraku.”
Arhin, one of Ghana football’s most experienced administrators, believes longer terms would offer leaders enough time to roll out meaningful reforms and complete developmental projects.
“This is not about keeping someone in power. It’s about continuity. If people think Kurt isn’t doing well, they should step forward and challenge him. That’s democracy.”
He urged stakeholders to focus less on term limits and more on building a strong, fair electoral process.
The proposal has been met with growing support from clubs, who argue that Ghana football needs policy stability and long-term planning to progress ; especially in grassroots and infrastructure development.
