Former Hearts of Oak head coach Aboubakar Ouattara has tipped Bibiani Goldstars to make a strong impression in their debut CAF Champions League campaign.
The 2024/25 Ghana Premier League champions are stepping into continental football for the first time after dethroning Samartex in a remarkable domestic season.
Ouattara, who watched the Miners crush lower-tier side Young Talent in a preseason friendly on Wednesday, believes the team has the quality to compete on the African stage.
“This is a preseason game, so you can’t judge fully, but they possessed the ball well. The future is bright for Goldstars. From what I saw, I believe they can go far in Africa,” he said.
The Ivorian tactician also praised the club’s historic league triumph.
“Goldstars beat us twice in the league. They’re champions for a reason. Not every team can do that in Ghana,” he added.
Goldstars will discover their preliminary round opponents for the CAF Champions League on August 12, when the draw is held in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
