Ghana international defender Abdul Mumin has rejected reports linking him with a move to La Liga club Girona FC, describing claims that he was close to joining the Spanish side as “False news!!”

Mumin responded on social media after a reporter suggested that the Black Stars centre-back was nearing a transfer to Girona FC. His brief reply directly dismissed the report and made clear that he does not consider the claim accurate.

The reports emerged shortly after Mumin became a free agent following the end of his four-year spell with Rayo Vallecano. The defender’s contract with the Spanish club ended on 1 July, leaving him available to consider his next move ahead of the new season.

Mumin’s departure brought an end to a period in which he established himself as an experienced centre-back in Spanish football. During his time with Rayo Vallecano, he made 63 La Liga appearances, scoring three goals and registering one assist.

The 27-year-old joined Rayo Vallecano from Portuguese club Vitoria Guimaraes in 2022. Since then, he has featured regularly enough to build a significant record in Spain’s top flight and become a familiar figure in the club’s defence.

Before moving to Portugal, Mumin also spent time with Danish side FC Nordsjaelland. His career has therefore included experience in Denmark, Portugal and Spain, as well as international football with Ghana.

However, despite the speculation surrounding Girona FC, Mumin has now stated that the reports are false. His social media response was the only comment included in the denial, but it was unequivocal in rejecting the suggestion that an agreement with the club was close.

Girona FC were identified in reports as a possible destination for the defender following his exit from Rayo Vallecano. Mumin’s response means that, based on the information available, no move to the Catalan club has been confirmed.

The Ghanaian currently remains without a club while he assesses his options before the new season. His availability follows four seasons with Rayo Vallecano, where he recorded 63 league appearances and contributed three goals and one assist.

For now, the defender’s position is that the Girona FC reports are not genuine. With his contract at Rayo Vallecano finished and his next club yet to be decided, Mumin will continue to weigh up the opportunities available to him.
