New Black Stars recruit Ransford Yeboah Königsdörffer says he had no association with Ghana before deciding to switch nationality to represent the West African country.

The Hamburg midfielder was among six players announced by the Ghana FA in June to have switched nationality to play for the four-time Africa champions.

Königsdörffer says he had no association to Ghana, the country of his father and would like to know more after deciding to switch nationality.

“I’ve actually never been to Ghana. I don’t associate that much with Ghana at the moment. I still want to get to know a lot. My dad is super proud that I’m doing this.”, Ransford Yeboah said in a podcast with Pur der HSV.

Königsdörffer started playing club football at SC Minerva 09 when he was five. At the time, his mother always made sure that her son tried other sports. He was active in tennis, swimming and athletics training, among other things. Königsdörffer even tried ballet.

“I wasn’t good at school, I was hurt. You have a few thoughts about that,” says Königsdörffer, who was very worried about his career at the time.

The move to Dresden became a sporting stepping stone. There the striker scored 13 goals in 76 competitive games from 2019 to 2022 and scored nine goals.

Königsdörffer joined Hamburg this summer from Dynamo Dresden and has scored two goals in six appearances for the club.

He has earned a call up to the Ghana national team for the friendlies against Brazil and Nicaragua later this month.
