Basake Holy Stars Communications Director, Alfred Taki Mensah, says the club considers the arrival of assistant head coach Johnson Smith as a major turning point in their fight against relegation.

Smith, one of the most experienced and well-travelled coaches in the Ghana Premier League, joined the club recently as Basake seek to revive their season and escape the drop.

Speaking exclusively to Kickoff Ghana, Mensah said Smith’s reputation for lifting struggling teams made him an obvious choice for the role.

“He has what it takes to surprise people and help a team secure a better position in the Premier League,” he said. “Look at what he did at Karela United in Nzema, Kotoko in Kumasi, and even Nations FC recently.

He is not new to Nzema football, so we trust and believe he can help this team climb.”

With head coach Evans Adotey currently on short leave for personal reasons, Smith has taken charge of the squad and already oversaw the club’s impressive win over Asante Kotoko ;  a victory that ended Kotoko’s 11-match unbeaten run.

Attention now turns to their meeting with Frimpong Manso’s Nations FC.
For Basake Holy Stars, the question is simple:
Was the Kotoko win the start of a great escape, or just a brief spark in a difficult season?
