Stjarnan Garðabær will be aiming to get right back in the title race after a recent winless run sent them down into third and created an 11-point gap on first place as they play hosts to Leiknir Reykjavík in Iceland’s top flight.
It was only three weeks ago that Stjarnan were battling within the top two and making serious moves to challenge for the title.

However, with three draws on the spin, the club are now down into third with 11 points the gap to make up. On the other hand, they do have a helping hand with a game extra to play over first place.
IBV were the last side to taste defeat at the hands of Syjarnan, as they ended up going on to draw 2-2 with Keflavik, and 1-1 with both KR Reykjavik and Hafnarfjaoar.
What’s worse for the third-placed side is also how they managed to lose in the Icelandic Men’s Football Cup round of 32 to Reykjavik 3-0, in what was easily the worst result and performance of Stjarnan’s season so far.
A win here is crucial for the club, and although they have only lost once all season long in the Urvalsdeild, their five draws and five wins after 11 games is quite alarming.
Their 21 goals scored is also the least inside the top four of the first division, with their 14 goals conceded being the third-best defensive record to this stage.
As for Leiknir, they are within touching distance of moving to the foot of the table, as they currently have seven points compared to the five of IBV in last place.
What’s more, they’ve scored just eight times across the 11 games so far, and it does make them the lowest scorers in the entire division.
On the other hand, they are coming off the back of their first and only win of the season, as Mikkel Jakobsen scored the game’s only goal in a 1-0 victory over IA.
Maciej Makuszewski was sent off that day for the club, and he now misses this game here.
Leiknir have also managed to let in 17 goals to this point, and after losing six times already, it’s hard to imagine them winning here.
Given the lack of form from Leiknir and Stjarnan’s eagerness to get back in the win column, Forebet predicts a game of over 2.5 goals and for the home side to win here.
