Barcelona’s Lamine Yamal and Raphinha have combined to form the most productive attacking partnership in Europe, with 43 direct goal contributions between them this season.
According to Sport, the pair have scored 29 goals and supplied 14 assists in 14 matches – 11 in La Liga and three in the UEFA Champions League.
Raphinha has contributed 17 goals and three assists in 12 appearances, while Yamal has scored 12 times and created 11 goals in 14 matches.
Those figures do not fully capture their importance to Barcelona, but they underline the extent of their influence. Raphinha’s absence is viewed as a regular problem for the Catalan club, while Yamal’s continued involvement is considered equally important.
Yamal has created more chances than any other player, with 48 opportunities according to Stats. That is twice Raphinha’s total of 24. However, the Brazilian’s work without the ball – including his pressing and movement – gives Barcelona additional attacking options.
In La Liga, Raphinha leads the scoring charts with 15 goals. Yamal tops the assist standings with seven and has also scored 10 times. Together, they have been involved in 25 of Barcelona’s 46 league goals, accounting for more than half of the team’s total.
Barcelona pair ahead of Champions League rivals
A comparison with attacking partnerships at other leading clubs, all competing in the UEFA Champions League, further highlights Barcelona’s numbers.
At Bayern Munich, Harry Kane and Michael Olise have scored eight goals each across the Bundesliga and UEFA Champions League, giving them 16 between them – 13 fewer than Yamal and Raphinha.
Kane and Olise have provided 12 assists, compared with 14 for Barcelona’s pair. Their combined total of 28 direct goal contributions is also well short of Yamal and Raphinha’s 43.
Manchester City’s Erling Haaland has scored 13 goals, while Rayan Cherki has five, giving the pair 18. Real Madrid also have 18 between them, with Kylian Mbappe scoring 15 and Arda Guler three.
Other major European clubs trail the Barcelona partnership by a similar margin. At Paris Saint-Germain, Ferran Torres and Ousmane Dembele have scored 11 goals, the same combined total recorded by Inter Milan’s Lautaro Martinez and Marcus Thuram.
The significance of Barcelona’s tally is increased by the fact that both players have passed 10 goals, while continuing to create danger for opponents throughout matches.
Outside Europe’s five major leagues, Club Brugge’s attacking partnership has produced 18 goals, with Tresoldi scoring 12 and Hugo Vetlesen six. At Sporting Lisbon, Luis Suarez has 12 goals and Geny Catamo two, giving them 14 combined.
