The Volta River Authority (VRA) will begin its defence of the University of Ghana Corporate Tennis Championship on Saturday, October 24, 2026, with GOIL Ghana, Stanbic Bank Ghana and the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) aiming to take the title from them.
The tournament will get under way at 8:00 am at the University of Ghana Tennis Court, where the four corporate teams will compete for the championship.
VRA are returning as holders after winning the inaugural 2025 edition. They defeated GOIL Ghana in the final to become the first champions of the competition.
The deciding match was settled through the doubles contests, with VRA winning both. They took the opening doubles match 9-4 before completing the victory with a 9-5 success in the second, meaning a deciding singles match was not required.
That performance underlined VRA’s strength in doubles and secured the trophy in the championship’s first staging.
The 2026 competition gives the three challengers another opportunity to prevent VRA from retaining the title. GOIL Ghana, who were beaten in last year’s final, will be joined by Stanbic Bank Ghana and GCAA in attempting to end the holders’ reign.
VRA will seek to reproduce the form and team spirit that delivered last year’s success, while their opponents will be focused on breaking the champions’ defence and claiming the trophy.
The event also serves a wider purpose beyond the results on court. It provides participating corporate institutions with an opportunity to promote healthy lifestyles among employees, develop professional relationships and build camaraderie through sport.
Attention will turn to the University of Ghana Tennis Court on Saturday, October 24, when VRA’s title defence begins against the three determined challengers.
