Ghana international Mohammed Kudus recorded his second Premier League assist of the season as Tottenham Hotspur beat Coventry City 3-1, but the forward’s late withdrawal after appearing to sustain an injury overshadowed the victory.
Kudus started Monday night’s match at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and created the opening goal in the 14th minute. He found James Maddison on the edge of the penalty area, where the midfielder finished to put Tottenham in front.
Spurs controlled the early stages and looked capable of extending their advantage, but Coventry responded after half-time. Jack Rudoni followed up on a rebound inside the penalty area to equalise in the 49th minute and give the visitors renewed belief.
Tottenham restored their lead nine minutes later. Andrew Robertson played the ball towards Omar Marmoush near the edge of the box, and Marmoush sent his shot into the right-hand side of the net in the 58th minute.
Coventry could not find a second equaliser as Tottenham defended their advantage and moved closer to securing all three points.
The hosts finally confirmed the result deep into stoppage time when Ben Davies scored with a superb volley from the edge of the penalty area in the 90th minute. Dominic Solanke provided the assist for the decisive third goal, completing the 3-1 scoreline.
However, Tottenham’s result was tempered by concern over Kudus, who was substituted in the 87th minute. The Ghanaian appeared to be struggling with an injury and limped from the field before being replaced by Dejan Kulusevski.
The extent of the suspected injury was not immediately known, and no further details were provided in the match report.
Kudus’ involvement in the opening goal underlined his importance to Tottenham’s attacking set-up after he was named in the starting line-up. His late departure will now be a concern for Spurs as they assess his condition.
The victory was secured through a series of attacking contributions. Kudus created Maddison’s opener, Robertson supplied the pass for Marmoush’s strike and Solanke set up Davies’ late volley.
Marmoush’s goal proved decisive after Rudoni had briefly brought Coventry level, while Davies’ finish added further emphasis to Tottenham’s response and ensured the home side collected all three points.
For Kudus, the assist marked his second in the Premier League this season and represented another positive step in his return following a lengthy injury layoff. Attention will now focus on whether the problem that forced him off affects his availability for Tottenham’s next fixtures.
