Ghana international Kwasi Sibo is set to join Libyan champions Al-Swehly after arriving in Cairo on Monday, 24 August 2026, to complete the move.
The 28-year-old midfielder has agreed a three-year contract with the club and is expected to undergo a medical before the transfer is formally concluded.
Sibo will then join his new team-mates as Al-Swehly prepare for their CAF Champions League preliminary-round campaign.
His move to Libya follows the collapse of a proposed transfer to Turkish Super Lig club Genclerbirligi. Sibo had reached a preliminary agreement with the Ankara-based side earlier this month and was expected to sign a two-year contract, with the option of extending it for a further season.
However, Genclerbirligi later abandoned the deal after choosing to reinforce their midfield with Senegalese player Cheikh Niasse. That decision left Sibo looking for another club despite the earlier progress made in negotiations.
The former Real Oviedo midfielder attracted considerable interest following his performances for Ghana at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Sibo played 249 minutes during the tournament. He came on for 12 minutes in Ghana’s match against Panama, completed the full 90 minutes against England, and then featured for 85 minutes against Croatia and 62 minutes against Colombia.
Those appearances helped increase attention around the midfielder, who had previously made clear his ambition to continue playing at the highest level in Europe.
Reports had also linked Sibo with clubs in the Premier League, Saudi Arabia and Egypt. Egyptian giants Al Ahly were among the teams said to be interested in signing him, but the Ghana international has instead opted for a move to Al-Swehly.
The Libyan club’s preparations for the CAF Champions League now provide Sibo with the opportunity to begin a new stage of his career while competing in continental football.
His transfer is expected to be formally completed once he has passed his medical examination.
