Harrogate Town have signed England and Ghana midfielder Brayden Johnson from Boro U21 on loan, with the 20-year-old joining the National League club on 20 August 2026.

Johnson, who plays in central midfield and prefers his right foot, moves to Harrogate after beginning the 2026-27 campaign with Middlesbrough’s under-21 side. The transfer takes him from Premier League 2 to the National League, giving him a change of senior football environment for the coming season.

The midfielder had already made one appearance in the National League Cup before switching clubs. He played 31 minutes in the competition and did not score or provide an assist.

Johnson spent part of the previous campaign on loan at Kidderminster, joining the club on 19 March 2026 before returning to Boro U21 at the end of May. He made that temporary move after starting the 2025-26 season with Middlesbrough’s under-21 side.

His route into the Boro academy followed a spell with Eastbourne, whom he joined from Eastbourne Borough’s under-18 team in July 2024. He moved from Eastbourne to Boro U21 in January 2025, before beginning a series of temporary spells away from the club.

Those included a loan at Gateshead in March 2025, which ended in May of the same year, followed by the later move to Kidderminster. Johnson has therefore spent much of his senior career gaining experience through loan moves since leaving youth football.

Harrogate’s new signing is listed as a central midfielder and has represented both England and Ghana at nationality level. His arrival adds another young option to the club’s midfield group as they compete in the National League and related cup competitions.

The move is Johnson’s latest temporary transfer from Boro U21 and is scheduled to run until 31 May 2027, when he is due to return to the Premier League 2 side.
