Cristiano Ronaldo absent from Al Nassr group training before Al Riyadh match

Cristiano Ronaldo’s availability for Al Nassr’s Roshn Saudi League meeting with Al Riyadh will be decided after medical and fitness checks on Thursday.

The Portugal forward and Al Nassr captain missed the club’s group training session on Wednesday as he continued an individual rehabilitation programme and completed separate fitness work.

Al Nassr travel to face Al Riyadh at Prince Faisal bin Fahd Stadium in the Saudi capital on Friday, in the second round of the Roshn Saudi League.

According to Saudi newspaper Al Riyadiyah, Ronaldo sustained an injury to a pelvic muscle during training earlier this week. However, the 41-year-old did not experience a recurrence of the problem while carrying out his fitness exercises on Wednesday.

He is due to undergo further medical and physical assessments during Al Nassr’s final training session before the match. The club’s medical staff will then determine whether he is fit to be included against Al Riyadh.

Ronaldo returned to training with Al Nassr earlier this week after a month away from the squad. His absence followed the end of his involvement with Portugal at the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico.

That period on the sidelines meant Ronaldo missed Al Nassr’s first two competitive fixtures of the new season. He was not involved in the club’s 3-0 victory over Al Fateh in the opening round of the Roshn Saudi League, nor in the 4-1 win against Al-Diriyah in the last 32 of the King’s Cup.

The latest assessment therefore represents Ronaldo’s final opportunity to prove he is ready to return to competitive action for Al Nassr. His participation will depend on the outcome of the tests carried out before Friday’s fixture.

Al Nassr will be hoping the checks provide sufficient evidence that the pelvic problem has settled, although the club has yet to confirm whether Ronaldo will take part in the match. The Portugal international’s absence from full group training on Wednesday leaves his status unresolved until the final preparations are complete.

The match at Prince Faisal bin Fahd Stadium is Al Nassr’s second Roshn Saudi League game of the campaign, following their opening-day success against Al Fateh. Al Riyadh will provide the opposition as Ronaldo seeks to make his first appearance of the new season, subject to clearance from the medical and fitness teams.
