Vuk Rasovic is nearing a return to the Saudi league, just two years after leaving the country, with Zamalek’s decision to retain their current manager opening the way for a move.
The Serbian coach had been linked with taking charge of Zamalek next season as a successor to Moataz Gamal. However, the Egyptian club subsequently changed course and decided to keep Gamal in the role.
According to Saudi newspaper Al-Riyadiyah, Rasovic has now closed the possibility of managing Zamalek next season and is considering the other offers available to him.
The report says the 52-year-old is choosing between two proposals: one from the Roshn Saudi League and another from the Qatar league. He is expected to make a final decision within the next few hours.
Rasovic has already rejected several other offers from Saudi clubs because he felt the sporting projects behind them were not sufficiently clear. He was also concerned that he would not be given the technical authority he believes is necessary for the role.
A return to Saudi football would represent another chapter in a country where Rasovic has already built a strong reputation. He first managed Al-Faisaly during the 2017-18 season before taking charge of Al-Fayha, where he worked between 2021 and 2024.
His most notable achievement in Saudi Arabia came with Al-Fayha in 2022, when he guided the club to the King’s Cup. Al-Fayha defeated Al Hilal on penalties in the final after the match finished 1-1 following normal time.
That victory made Rasovic the manager of the team that overcame Al Hilal to claim one of Saudi Arabia’s major domestic trophies. It remains the biggest success of his coaching career in the country.
After ending his spell with Al-Fayha, Rasovic returned to the UAE league. He had previously managed Al Dhafra and Al Wahda in the United Arab Emirates, and later took charge of Kalba.
His time at Kalba lasted until February, when that spell came to an end. He has since been weighing up his next opportunity, with the potential move to Zamalek now no longer under consideration.
The coach’s choice is expected to be between a return to the Roshn Saudi League and a move to Qatar. His previous experience in Saudi Arabia, particularly the King’s Cup triumph with Al-Fayha, makes him a familiar figure to clubs in the division.
For now, Rasovic is understood to be assessing the details of both remaining offers before deciding where he will work next season. Should he choose the Saudi proposal, it would mark his return to the league after two years away.
