Al Ahli midfielder Enzo Millot came under renewed criticism from the club’s supporters after a serious mistake helped Al Ettifaq score in their final friendly before the 2026-27 football season.
Al Ahli faced Al Ettifaq on Wednesday in their last warm-up match ahead of the new campaign. The Saudi side were already trailing 1-0 when Millot made the error that led directly to Al Ettifaq’s second goal in the 31st minute.
The incident occurred as Al Ahli attempted to build an attack from the back. Goalkeeper Abdulrahman Al-Sanbi played the ball to Millot near the edge of his own penalty area, but instead of finding one of his team-mates, the French midfielder passed to Al Ettifaq forward Yasser Al-Shammari.
Al-Shammari took advantage of the misplaced pass and converted the opportunity, sending the ball into the net to extend Al Ettifaq’s lead.
Millot’s mistake triggered a strong reaction among Al Ahli supporters, who have already called for the player to leave the club during the current summer transfer window. Despite that pressure, he has remained at the Saudi club, with no suitable offers arriving for him.
The latest error is likely to intensify doubts surrounding Millot as Al Ahli prepare for the start of the new season. The midfielder could nevertheless begin the campaign in the starting line-up, particularly following the departure of Ivory Coast international Franck Kessie at the end of the previous season.
Kessie’s exit could create a more prominent role for Millot in midfield, even though the Frenchman’s performances declined significantly after an encouraging start to his time at the club. He spent much of the latter part of last season on the substitutes’ bench.
Millot joined Al Ahli during last summer’s transfer window after moving from German club Stuttgart. His arrival initially appeared positive, but his form subsequently fell away, leading to a reduced role within the team.
The friendly against Al Ettifaq was Al Ahli’s final preparation match before competitive football resumes for the 2026-27 campaign. Millot’s mistake, however, has ensured that attention has once again focused on his position at the club and his relationship with the supporters.
Al Ahli fans, known as the “Al-Raqi” supporters, had wanted the midfielder to depart during the current transfer period. His decision to stay, combined with the absence of an offer considered suitable by the player, has left him facing further scrutiny before the season begins.
The midfielder will now look to recover his standing within the squad, but his latest contribution to an opponent’s goal has provided another source of frustration for Al Ahli’s fanbase.
