Polokwane City have completed the signing of Ghanaian goalkeeper Abdulai Iddrisu from Ethiopian Premier League club Negele Arsi Town FC.

The 29-year-old joins the South African Premier Soccer League side after an outstanding 2025/26 campaign in Ethiopia, where he was named Ethiopian Premier League Goalkeeper of the Season.

Iddrisu was a key figure for Negele Arsi Town FC throughout the season, producing a series of influential performances as the club enjoyed an impressive campaign. His reliability in goal, sharp reflexes, authority in the penalty area and leadership qualities established him as one of the league’s leading goalkeepers.

He appeared in 30 Ethiopian Premier League matches during the 2025/26 season and kept 14 clean sheets. Iddrisu conceded only 24 goals, a record that placed him among the division’s best-performing goalkeepers.

His form also brought several Player of the Match awards before he received the league’s top individual honour for a goalkeeper. The Goalkeeper of the Season award recognised his sustained level of performance across the campaign.

Iddrisu is regarded as a goalkeeper with strong shot-stopping ability, quick reactions, an imposing presence when dealing with aerial balls and composure under pressure. Those qualities are expected to give him an immediate opportunity to challenge for Polokwane City’s number-one position.

The transfer represents another significant step in the Ghanaian’s career. After establishing himself in the Ethiopian top flight, he will now attempt to continue that progress in the South African Premier Soccer League, one of Africa’s most competitive domestic competitions.

Polokwane City will hope his experience and form can add strength to their defensive unit as they prepare for the 2026/27 South African Premier Soccer League season.

Iddrisu’s move follows a campaign in which he became one of Negele Arsi Town FC’s standout players. His consistency between the posts helped him earn recognition across the Ethiopian Premier League and ultimately secure a move to South Africa.

With his award-winning season behind him, the goalkeeper now begins a new challenge at Polokwane City, where his performances will be closely watched as he seeks to establish himself in the PSL.
