Ghana winger Joseph Opoku scored his first goal for Swansea City as they beat Spanish side Leganes 1-0 in a pre-season friendly on Saturday.

The 20-year-old supplied the only goal of the match, giving Swansea another encouraging result as they continue building towards the 2026/27 season.

Opoku’s goal represents the latest milestone in his developing Swansea career. Having joined the Championship club this summer, the former Zulte Waregem player made the decisive contribution in a performance that showcased his attacking ability.

His pace and willingness to run directly at the Leganes defence created repeated problems for the Spanish side. Opoku also used intelligent movement to find space, while his energy without the ball allowed him to contribute to Swansea’s pressing game.

The winger was among Swansea’s most influential performers throughout the friendly. Alongside his threat in the final third, he helped drive the team’s creativity and maintained a high level of pressure on Leganes, ensuring the Welsh club protected their narrow advantage.

For Swansea, the victory provides another positive outcome during their preparations for the new campaign. The 1-0 scoreline reflected a match decided by a single moment, with Opoku’s finish separating the two sides.

His first Swansea goal also adds an important personal highlight to a summer in which he has begun a new chapter after an impressive season in Belgium.

Opoku joined Swansea after an outstanding 2025/26 campaign with Zulte Waregem. He scored 10 goals and supplied six assists in 34 league appearances for the Belgian club, performances that helped establish him as one of Ghana’s highly-rated young players.

The forward has committed his future to Swansea on a four-year contract. The agreement also includes an option for the club to extend his stay by a further year.

That deal underlines Swansea’s belief in Opoku’s potential, while his display against Leganes offered an early indication of the qualities he can bring to the side. His combination of speed, direct play, creativity and pressing was central to Swansea’s success on Saturday.

With the Championship club continuing their pre-season programme, Opoku will hope the goal marks the beginning of a productive spell in Swansea colours. For now, it has given him his first goal for the club and secured a 1-0 victory over Leganes.
