Asante Kotoko SC Pays GH¢60,000 of Zito Compensation, Balance to Be Settled in Tranches

Asante Kotoko SC has paid GH¢60,000 of the GH¢120,000 compensation owed to former head coach Abdul Karim Zito following his resignation earlier this month.

The amount represents four months’ salary due to the veteran tactician, who stepped down on February 9 after a difficult spell that saw Kotoko exit the CAF Confederation Cup and the MTN FA Cup, while falling eight points behind league leaders Medeama SC in the Ghana Premier League title race.

Sources close to the club indicate that Coach Zito has sought clarification regarding the outstanding GH¢60,000 balance.

Kotoko officials have reportedly assured that the remaining amount will be paid in instalments, citing bookkeeping and financial management processes as reasons for the phased settlement.

The development follows Zito’s departure, with both parties said to be keen on resolving the financial matter amicably. The club has since placed the team under interim head coach Prince Yaw Owusu as preparations continue for the remainder of the season.

Despite the abrupt end to his tenure, Zito’s time at the club included a historic domestic cup double in 2025 before results declined in the current campaign.
