Thomas Partey’s Villarreal suffered a 2-1 defeat to Ajax Amsterdam in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday.
Ajax came from behind to secure the win, with Villarreal’s Tani Oluwaseyi scoring an early lead in the 49th minute.
However, Ajax equalized through Oscar Gloukh’s free kick in the 61st minute and substitute Oliver Edvardsen scored the winner in the 90th minute.
This defeat eliminates Villarreal from the competition, leaving them second from bottom with a single point after one draw and six defeats in seven games.
Ajax, on the other hand, keeps their hopes alive with a second win in the tournament.
